Last week I ventured outside my normal yoga routine to try out another studio. A quaint, little, force of a nature studio in Del Mar, CA called Bindu Yoga.

My normal practice is a hatha vinyasa flow in a studio heated to 106 degrees. You’re pretty much dripping sweat the minute you walk in the door, and you’re generally more flexible than you would be out of the heat. Practicing in the heat is more than hot. Its a detoxifying, tingly, head rushing, intense experience. I’m kind of addicted to it. But, It wasnt until I went on a yoga retreat, this past April, to Costa Rica, that I felt what it was like to build heat from within.

Bindu studio only holds about 20-30 people. Its tiny, and its perfect. I had been hearing about this teacher Katie Brauer constantly over the last couple months, but it seemed like everytime someone invited me I was busy, or out of town.

Well, I finally made it, and I had my mind blown. She is an incredible teacher. Fluid, solid, light hearted, funny, focused, hands on, full of love, insightful, divine, gorgeous. Katie is a true goddess. And though I only met her for a brief ‘Hello’ before class, it was easy to recognize all these things, she wears her love of life on her sleeve.

Later that week, I came back to attend another amazing class, led by Bethany Orheim, the studios owner. This class was unlike any class I had ever taken, with live music and chanting played while we practiced. We flowed through an hour of class, while the amazing Steve Gold walked the path of space between our mats singing mantras, his wife who also sings, accompanied him with their new baby strapped to her chest. Kind of amazing if you ask me.

Needless to say, this studio feels like home. The same way I felt about Yoga Tropics when I stumbled in there. When you find the studio that speaks to your heart, you just know. Nothing says yoga, like good teachers, a sense of community and everyone ready to love each other up.

I am honored to be joining this clan at Wanderlust for the next 4 days. It’s gonna be epic!!!!!!!

Check out the amazing video above that Katie made, which won her a spot teaching at the amazing Wanderlust festival.

And also…Check out Steve Gold’s music here: So Much Magnificence will melt your heart.

Om Shreem Shriyei is a good one too.

    :)
