I just wrote my letter to the Governor, have you?
Its time Sara Kruzan gets out of prison, today is the day, and she needs our help!
If you have a few minutes to spare, read my last post to learn more about Sara and her case. If this is something that resonates with you, take a moment to call or email the Governor. Together we can make this happen!
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
My name is Tristan Prettyman and I would like to urge you to publicly support clemency for Sara Kruzan.
To be given a life sentence in prison because you shot your pimp at the age of 16, for basically ruining your childhood, for abusing and prostituting you, since you were 11 years old, seems like an absurd sentence to give someone, especially a child.
This woman has spent the last 15 years of her life in prison and during that time she has earned a college degree as well as the recognition of the corrections officers. Despite having no expectation of leaving our prison system, she has worked to better herself and overcome the effects of her youth.
This is a obviously a sign, that she strives for victory over her past.
The more I learn about trafficking, cases like Sara’s sadden me. While I understand that she shot and killed someone, she was only a child. To have your childhood taken from right beneath you, I think anyone in her situation might have done the same thing.
I think its time we set her free, and let her share her story. We could use her story to our advantage. We could start educating our youth, and citizens alike about the current realities of sex trafficking. Trafficking that takes place right here, in our backyards, day in and day out. Its time we let the men that participate in the trafficking of minors know: REAL MEN DONT BUY GIRLS.
As we become better informed about the impacts of sex trafficking in our society and recognize that youths are frequently the victims in those cases, we need to take into account the special circumstances of these victims. Sara Kruzan was such a victim, she has paid her debt to society and we need to recognize that.
Please issue a statement supporting the release of Sara Kruzan.
Thank you for your time.
